Avea Trotter – Monster High Freaky Fusion Hybrid Doll Review

My last review is for the Avea Trotter doll. This is the doll I was least excited for, and I’m still not sold on her. I’m not a huge centaur fan, so that might contribute to how lackluster she is to me.

Avea Trotter

Avea is the daughter of a harpy (Mother) and a centaur (Father).

Avea Trotter
Avea has dramatic eye make-up. This reminds me of peacock feathers! This must be the nod to her harpy scaritage. She has dark purple lipstick.

Avea Trotter
Avea has horse ears with no earrings. Her blue hair has darker blue streaks.

Avea Trotter
She wears a black top hat with red/pinkish feathers. The hat has a strap that comes down over her chin.

Avea Trotter
Avea wears a blue halter top with a red jacket on top. Her belt extends down to her centaur side.

Avea’s lower arms feature feathers. She wears two different style bracelets. Her black hands are actually riding gloves. I find that to be an interesting style choice.

Avea Trotter
This is the reason I bought this doll! She has beautiful harpy wings attached to her back, in much the same way all of the Monster High wings attach. The wings have a beautiful gradient from a dark green (almost black) down to a nice emerald green. You can also see her jacket has an opening to allow her wings to be comfy.

Avea Trotter
Avea doesn’t wear shoes, but she does have these shin guards. This is a nice photo to have, because once I took them off, I completely forgot in which order they should go!

Avea Trotter
Avea wears a belt that goes from her waist down to her less human side. I’m not a fan of this. I understand the equine references, but I’d think a centaur (who HATES being referred to as a vehicle) would avoid all references to being ridden.
You can also see her cute blue tail. That black piece doesn’t come off, or it it does, I didn’t find a way.
She also has these little Monster High skulletes on her leg. This is very “My Little Pony” to me, and I am not a fan. Also, why would she have the Monster High logo on her leg if she isn’t even a student there, yet?

On her other side (My Little Pony fans call this the non-display side) she has the same pattern on her front legs.

Avea Trotter
Avea’s front legs have articulation at the hip, the knee, and the ankle. Her back legs are only articulated at the hip. I’m actually a fan of this decision, because she has a hard enough time with the front articulation. Of the three, you’d think that Avea would stand the most easy, but she actually falls over a lot!

Avea Trotter
Avea has a jointed torso that allows her to turn.

Avea Trotter
I think one of the problems I have with Avea is that she doesn’t really have hips to put her hands on.

Avea Trotter
Avea is shorter than Nightmare and has smaller hooves.

Avea Trotter
Avea is a little more short than a normal Monster High doll.

Avea Trotter
Avea is a purple between Jane and Twyla. She is darker than Twyla, but lighter than Jane.

Avea Trotter
And that is Avea! I can’t wait to find more styling options for her. I think it would be fun to try and design outfits for her. I may try to host some kind of contest later to see who can design the best outfit for her. What do you think?

  1. Well, she’s definitely not wearing a saddle, so I think that’s in line with her objections to being ridden. It looks more like an adapted fancy carriage harness to me.

  2. I feel they could have done a bit more with her centaur quarters…the idea and execution is nice, but it feels lacking.

  3. I feel like this doll from the freaking fusion as well as the other two dolls lack some actual colours that would actually make the dolls more beautiful and pop out more. I find that the colours for this doll make it seem so dull. I thought I would love Avea the most, but i can’t get past her boring color scheme.

  4. I like her the best of all the Freaky Fusion Hybrid line, but I dislike the lack of articulation in her back legs and her Hybrid. It seems too forceful, her wings are completly useless, she won\’t be able to fly with them! If they did her wings like a pegasus, that would have been neat. I really hope monster high would release normal centaurs with better articulation, they can even do a whole line of centaurs, it will be so awesome!

  5. I love Avea, but I really think it would better if Mattel release a harpy and a centaur as separated dolls, rather than blend them into one :/ and I geuss the lighter part belong to her harpy dad/mom, while the darker part is from the other parent (Dark Horse? lol), but anyway, great review ;)
