The second of the Hat-tastic dolls that I unboxed (deboxed?) was Briar Beauty. This doll is the real surprise from this line. She is such a Beauty! I expected a boring mandatory pink doll, but instead, I got a real treat!
Briar came up with the idea for all of the participants to bring their own favorite teas in their personal teapots. Thank you for the idea, Briar, because now we get individually styled accessories for each doll!
Some people are upset that Mattel reuses the same poses/art for the dolls, but puts them in their new outfits. I’m actually a fan of this little piece. If it continues, it is a nice piece of continuity for the line.
I put all four of my Briar dolls side-by-side to compare them. I think Hat-tastic Briar looks most like her signature doll. Her lipstick is a different pink without the three shine dots on the bottom.
While the front of Briar’s hair is very pink, the back maintains that nice cocoa brown color that we are used to from her other doll releases. She has nice long soft curly/wavy hair. I’m going to have to take extra care to not ruin these curls with water that is too warm!
Briar has two earrings that for everything I can tell are mirror images of one-another. They are black roses with a little vine/leaf attachment.
This second photo also shows how her hair is sewn onto her head. I’ve detached a MH doll whose hair was like this, and I have always regretted it. The original hairstyle never looks as good when they get detached.
You can also see a side view of her hat/headband here. More than either of the other two, Briar’s hat reminds me of those hats the British monarchy wears.
Here is the top of Briar’s hat, just so you can see the detailed painting they’ve done. In some places on these dolls the paint becomes an issue when it gets smeared, is missing, or has extra dabs here and there. This isn’t really an issue with my Briar’s hat. I’m always just super thankful for this bit of detailing that goes into the EAH dolls.
Briar wears these cute pink and silver heels. Several collectors/obsessed people, such as myself, had seen these shoes on the Chinese auction site taobao in their unfinished/unpainted state. I had no idea that these shoes would eventually belong to Briar. They totally looked like something a Lagoona doll would wear.
Briar’s purse is this strange teal color. It has a hot pink chain and closure mechanism. This purse is one solid piece. There is no mistaking it – this purse doesn’t even look like it could open! (Also, notice what I was talking about paint? A little extra teal there on the handle)
So what if you are one-per-character-collector? Is Hat-tastic the Briar for you? I think that depends on if you like all of that pink hair. I’m not a fan of signature Briar’s little knot. I, personally, love all of the pink in her hair! I love her little outfit! Her purse leaves something to be desired, but I wouldn’t base a doll purchase on her purse. I guess I’d have to say… I don’t know what to tell you. I am really happy with this doll, I love adding her to my collection! I really don’t know how you one-per-character guys do it. You are way more disciplined than me!
