Greetings everyone! It’s been a long time since I’ve done a review, and most of that is just that life has been getting in the way. I have a TON of things to review and talk about, but I just haven’t had much chance or motivation to sit down and take photos, edit them, and write up a review. I know…. whine whine. Sorry. Anyways, you didn’t come here to hear me whine, let’s get to the review! I’ll post a little sneak peak of what else I’m working on at the end, so make sure you stay tuned!
First up is Holly!
I purchased this doll on Amazon for $19.99. At the time of this posting, Amazon claims to have 7 left in stock. They come and go; your best bet would be to add a tracker from nowinstock.net if you want this doll, but can’t grab her right now.
And here is that barcode in case any of you want to go scanning it at certain stores. I have NO idea if any brick-and-mortar stores will carry these dolls. It seems every store is ditching both EAH and MH right now.
This doll has the new smiling face, so I thought it would be interesting to compare her to the signature (or first) Holly doll. It’s hard to see sometimes how these are the same character. Her expression really changes something about the character. I kind of like this look for her; it is more in line with her character.
Many people would be upset to see that her vest is attached to her shirt. Or that the shirt/vest combo is attached to the skirt. I, however, am just so excited for a new EAH doll/line that I am not complaining about much.
Holly carries a stack of books that are a recast of the Book Club Ginger Breadhouse. I can’t remember if the other dolls in that line also carried the books (mainly because I never purchased Kitty or Lizzie from the line.)
The $20 Back to School dolls come with a new brush type. I’ve never seen this brush before (but I did skip many newer releases, so maybe I am very out of date). It seems a tad strange to create an entire new brush design for a line that they are probably going to discontinue soon.
Speaking of Meeshell…..
I purchased this doll from Amazon as well, but this purchase occurred before Christmas. As Holly was on my Christmas wishlist, I had to wait until after to purchase her. That being said, I’ve had Meeshell for much longer and have misplaced (or thrown out) her box and ID card. So let’s just dive right in to the doll herself:
The doll has a beautiful face with mint green eyeshadow on her lower lids and a peach on her upper lids. Her lips have glitter pink lipstick and she has glitter and stars by her right eye.
You can see here that the glitter is more obvious on the BTS doll. It’s not super noticeable in pictures or real life, but the BTS doll is also a SLIGHT shade lighter on her skintone. The hair rooting pattern on both dolls looks identical, but the BTS doll has hers pulled back on her right side. The eyebrows are also slightly different on this BTS doll.
The back of the dress has the skirt pattern continue around the back (YAY!) There isn’t much of the print from the front for the top that would make sense back here, so I’m not concerned that it is plain.
One major change that I noted in my Back to School Apple White review was that the new EAH dolls have a new style arm that separates at the elbow. This is another strange addition/modification for a doll line that is on its last leg. I keep grasping at straws hoping this isn’t the end. I know it is…. just let me live in denial.
I save the best for last…. well…. in my eyes. BLONDIE LOCKES!
Again, I purchased this doll before Christmas on Amazon.com. This doll retails for $14.99. That reduced price is due to several factors that we will discuss here.
I’ve placed her here next to the Epic Winter Blondie Lockes. The new BTS Blondie has lips that are slightly lighter and her blue eyeshadow is a little more noticable. The rooting pattern on her hair is definitely different, as this doll has a side part with no cut bangs.
Blondie comes with a pair of blue glasses with no paint on them. I could find no match to these glass among the ones I have. They aren’t the same as any of the Rosabella dolls that I have. But, like I said earlier, I am a little behind on releases.
I didn’t get a good clear shot of her shoes, but they ARE recasts. It took me a minute to find the correct pair of shoes, because without paint they look so much like seashells, so I thought Meeshell, but actually, these are the Briar Beauty shoes from the Hattastic line.
So let’s talk about this for a minute. A doll costs $14.99 and has removable clothes, removable shoes, less articulation, but still some. Her elbow and hip joints with the same as a more articulated doll. Compare this to….
THIS ballet line doll. This ballet doll line was around $9.99 when I purchased her at Toys R Us. For almost $10 you get a doll, with molded on clothes, molded on tights, no removable shoes, and VERY little articulation. You mean that for just $5 more I can have a doll that does everything I want but doesn’t have knees or wrists. I’ll take it!
Look, let’s be real here, these two dolls aren’t intended for an adult collection. They are less expensive dolls that are meant for young people to enjoy. I honestly bought that ballet doll so that my 5-year-old niece could have something to play with while visiting me, but NOT ruin any of my more cherished dolls. This doll is meant to hold up after hours of play. And Blondie can too. I think this $15 doll is a great compromise. There are other dolls (Darling and Cupid, I believe) in this line and I fully plan on adding them to my collection when I get a little more money. I’m actually very awkward posing many of my dolls with their wrists and knees. This pose that they come in is adorable. The elbow provides just enough articulation to give her some sass and character. If this means I get more EAH dolls with proper fashions and shoes (even if they are recasts) I will take it.
What do you think? Is this something you would add to your collection?
And speaking of collection, here is a little of my to-do list. I’ve got the Gigi Hadid Barbie to review, my first Enchantimal, a recent reroot to show you, fashions from the Comic Book MH budget dolls, the Hello Kitty Barbie fashions, the Hello Kitty Barbie, new Fashionistas, and more! This is a crazy amount of stuff to show you in the coming weeks, but I’m hoping that life lets me get back to writing and reviewing for you. And that anyone still visits the site after my long breaks. So let me know if you are here and what you think. If nothing else, just say Hi in the comments to let me know you are still here! Happy New Year!
