Ever After High Back to School Dolls – Review

Greetings everyone! It’s been a long time since I’ve done a review, and most of that is just that life has been getting in the way. I have a TON of things to review and talk about, but I just haven’t had much chance or motivation to sit down and take photos, edit them, and write up a review. I know…. whine whine. Sorry. Anyways, you didn’t come here to hear me whine, let’s get to the review! I’ll post a little sneak peak of what else I’m working on at the end, so make sure you stay tuned!

But for now! Let’s look at some of the EAH Back to School dolls. I have for you today Holly, Meeshell, and Blondie!
EAH Back to School Reviews

First up is Holly!
EAH Back to School Reviews
I purchased this doll on Amazon for $19.99. At the time of this posting, Amazon claims to have 7 left in stock. They come and go; your best bet would be to add a tracker from nowinstock.net if you want this doll, but can’t grab her right now.

EAH Back to School Reviews
The three main $20 dolls from this line are Madeline Hatter, Meeshell Mermaid, and Holly O’Hair. I’m not a huge Maddie fan, but I’ll probably add her to my collection at some point later.

EAH Back to School Reviews
And here is that barcode in case any of you want to go scanning it at certain stores. I have NO idea if any brick-and-mortar stores will carry these dolls. It seems every store is ditching both EAH and MH right now.

EAH Back to School Reviews
Out of the box Holly comes with a Student ID Card, a laptop, a stack of books, and a comb.

EAH Back to School Reviews
The doll has a BEAUTIFUL smiling face with pink lipstick, purple and gold shimmer eyeshadow, and blushing.

EAH Back to School Reviews
This doll has the new smiling face, so I thought it would be interesting to compare her to the signature (or first) Holly doll. It’s hard to see sometimes how these are the same character. Her expression really changes something about the character. I kind of like this look for her; it is more in line with her character.

EAH Back to School Reviews
Holly wears a golden headband. I haven’t seen this headband on any other doll before, so yay for new accessories!

EAH Back to School ReviewsEAH Back to School Reviews
Holly has some seriously blushing on her cheeks.

EAH Back to School Reviews
Straight out of the box Holly’s hair is a little crazy. I have done nothing to her hair here to tame it.

EAH Back to School Reviews
The Back to School Holly has hair shorter than the signature or Dragon Games doll. It is slightly curly and crazy, but the same color as the other two dolls.

EAH Back to School Reviews
Holly is wearing a one piece dress.

EAH Back to School Reviews
Many people would be upset to see that her vest is attached to her shirt. Or that the shirt/vest combo is attached to the skirt. I, however, am just so excited for a new EAH doll/line that I am not complaining about much.

EAH Back to School Reviews
The skirt portion also has an attached mesh layer.

EAH Back to School Reviews
The back of the dress shows that it attaches with velcro and (!!!!) has the print throughout the entire back portion of the dress.

EAH Back to School Reviews
Holly wears black heels with no paint. You can see the details of socks, laces, flowers, and wines.

EAH Back to School Reviews
Holly carries a stack of books that are a recast of the Book Club Ginger Breadhouse. I can’t remember if the other dolls in that line also carried the books (mainly because I never purchased Kitty or Lizzie from the line.)

EAH Back to School Reviews
The $20 Back to School dolls come with a new brush type. I’ve never seen this brush before (but I did skip many newer releases, so maybe I am very out of date). It seems a tad strange to create an entire new brush design for a line that they are probably going to discontinue soon.

EAH Back to School ReviewsEAH Back to School Reviews
Holly has a gold computer EXACTLY like the BTS Apple and EXACTLY like the computer from the Apple Fainting Couch set. Meeshell has a light blue version of the same laptop.

EAH Back to School ReviewsEAH Back to School Reviews
Holly’s student ID card is a piece of cardboard that is an interesting addition to the box. I have misplaced the one for Meeshell, but I remember it being very similar.

Speaking of Meeshell…..
I purchased this doll from Amazon as well, but this purchase occurred before Christmas. As Holly was on my Christmas wishlist, I had to wait until after to purchase her. That being said, I’ve had Meeshell for much longer and have misplaced (or thrown out) her box and ID card. So let’s just dive right in to the doll herself:
EAH Back to School Reviews
The doll has a beautiful face with mint green eyeshadow on her lower lids and a peach on her upper lids. Her lips have glitter pink lipstick and she has glitter and stars by her right eye.

EAH Back to School Reviews
The glitter on the BTS doll is much more pronounced than that on the signature doll.

EAH Back to School Reviews
You can see here that the glitter is more obvious on the BTS doll. It’s not super noticeable in pictures or real life, but the BTS doll is also a SLIGHT shade lighter on her skintone. The hair rooting pattern on both dolls looks identical, but the BTS doll has hers pulled back on her right side. The eyebrows are also slightly different on this BTS doll.

EAH Back to School ReviewsEAH Back to School Reviews
The doll is beautiful. The glitter is very noticeable, but so far has shed very little. This doll, like the Holly doll, does not wear earrings.

EAH Back to School Reviews
Meeshell wears a headband that looks like a tied ribbon. I don’t *THINK* this is the same as the signature Poppy headband.

EAH Back to School Reviews
Meeshell wears a one-piece dress that is just adorable!

EAH Back to School Reviews
The top of the dress has a printed EAH logo and a pocketwatch printed on the side. She has a collar and buttons also printed on. This dress is so cute!!!

EAH Back to School Reviews
The skirt portion is a square skirt with a plaid print with seashells printed on it.

EAH Back to School Reviews
Oh dear! Forgive me Meeshell! The skirt has a square mesh layer stitched to the dress as well. This adds little volume to the skirt, but does add a nice touch.

EAH Back to School Reviews
The back of the dress has the skirt pattern continue around the back (YAY!) There isn’t much of the print from the front for the top that would make sense back here, so I’m not concerned that it is plain.

EAH Back to School Reviews
Meeshell wears adorable white shoes with a bow, stack of books, and keys. Wait. Keys? Aren’t those Holly’s thing? Why are they on Meeshell’s shoes?

EAH Back to School Reviews
I’m kind of proud of myself for keeping up with the brush, books, and laptop of Meeshell. These little trinkets tend to get lost around my doll room.

EAH Back to School Reviews
One major change that I noted in my Back to School Apple White review was that the new EAH dolls have a new style arm that separates at the elbow. This is another strange addition/modification for a doll line that is on its last leg. I keep grasping at straws hoping this isn’t the end. I know it is…. just let me live in denial.

I save the best for last…. well…. in my eyes. BLONDIE LOCKES!
EAH Back to School Reviews
Again, I purchased this doll before Christmas on Amazon.com. This doll retails for $14.99. That reduced price is due to several factors that we will discuss here.

EAH Back to School Reviews
Blondie has the smiling face with light pink lips and light blue eyeshadow.

EAH Back to School Reviews
I’ve placed her here next to the Epic Winter Blondie Lockes. The new BTS Blondie has lips that are slightly lighter and her blue eyeshadow is a little more noticable. The rooting pattern on her hair is definitely different, as this doll has a side part with no cut bangs.

EAH Back to School ReviewsEAH Back to School Reviews
Blondie comes with a pair of blue glasses with no paint on them. I could find no match to these glass among the ones I have. They aren’t the same as any of the Rosabella dolls that I have. But, like I said earlier, I am a little behind on releases.

EAH Back to School Reviews
Here you can see Blondie wearing the glasses under her side swept bangs.

EAH Back to School Reviews
Blondie wears a flower crown headband that is the same non-painted blue. I also could not find an identical flower crown that this could be recast from.

EAH Back to School Reviews
Blondie wears a simple dress with a print on the front…

EAH Back to School Reviews
but not the back. It is a halter style dress that is tied around her neck.

EAH Back to School Reviews
Blondie wears a gold necklace with similar flowers to those on her headband.

EAH Back to School Reviews
I didn’t get a good clear shot of her shoes, but they ARE recasts. It took me a minute to find the correct pair of shoes, because without paint they look so much like seashells, so I thought Meeshell, but actually, these are the Briar Beauty shoes from the Hattastic line.

EAH Back to School Reviews
So this doll is less expensive because her dress is cheaper, her shoes are recasts, and SHOCK! THE DOLL IS LESS ARTICULATED! Look at those legs! Blondie has no knees!

EAH Back to School Reviews
She also has no wrists! Her arm comes out at the elbow, though, so you could replace these with some of the other new style if you wanted.

So let’s talk about this for a minute. A doll costs $14.99 and has removable clothes, removable shoes, less articulation, but still some. Her elbow and hip joints with the same as a more articulated doll. Compare this to….

EAH Back to School Reviews
THIS ballet line doll. This ballet doll line was around $9.99 when I purchased her at Toys R Us. For almost $10 you get a doll, with molded on clothes, molded on tights, no removable shoes, and VERY little articulation. You mean that for just $5 more I can have a doll that does everything I want but doesn’t have knees or wrists. I’ll take it!

Look, let’s be real here, these two dolls aren’t intended for an adult collection. They are less expensive dolls that are meant for young people to enjoy. I honestly bought that ballet doll so that my 5-year-old niece could have something to play with while visiting me, but NOT ruin any of my more cherished dolls. This doll is meant to hold up after hours of play. And Blondie can too. I think this $15 doll is a great compromise. There are other dolls (Darling and Cupid, I believe) in this line and I fully plan on adding them to my collection when I get a little more money. I’m actually very awkward posing many of my dolls with their wrists and knees. This pose that they come in is adorable. The elbow provides just enough articulation to give her some sass and character. If this means I get more EAH dolls with proper fashions and shoes (even if they are recasts) I will take it.

What do you think? Is this something you would add to your collection?

Upcoming Projects
And speaking of collection, here is a little of my to-do list. I’ve got the Gigi Hadid Barbie to review, my first Enchantimal, a recent reroot to show you, fashions from the Comic Book MH budget dolls, the Hello Kitty Barbie fashions, the Hello Kitty Barbie, new Fashionistas, and more! This is a crazy amount of stuff to show you in the coming weeks, but I’m hoping that life lets me get back to writing and reviewing for you. And that anyone still visits the site after my long breaks. So let me know if you are here and what you think. If nothing else, just say Hi in the comments to let me know you are still here! Happy New Year!

  1. Someone’s had Blondie’s tiara. I think Powerful Princess Tribe Holly? The necklace was Sig Holly’s and the glasses are from Archery Rosabella. I IDed most of these when I got them in hand, so it’s been awhile. Doesn’t matter to me, as she wears them well, unlike the odd motifs on poor, pale, less-interestingly-faced Meeshell. Blondie is my favorite of the new batch, and you know how weird that is.

    1. You are so right about the tiara and necklace! I just checked. Thank you so much! And I don’t have any of the Archery dolls, so that would explain why I couldn’t find the glasses. Thanks again!

  2. I’m glad whenever there are picture reviews because nowadays it’s all videos, so yes, I’m looking forward to your reviews!

  3. Nice to see you back.
    Thanks for the reviews!
I’ve been tempted to get this line several times, but I’m still not quite convince with the changes on their new faces. Every time I pull Holly to inspect up close, I feel that she might have consumed too many stimulant pixie dust. And I’m sad to see her hair shorter.
Maddie and Meeshell also make me doubt, but then again, if they don’t sell, then the line will close faster. I’m still deciding on Nina and Jillian, and Justine and Courtley. I think I moderately like them all which is quite not enough to make the purchase :(

  4. I loved your reviews! Meeshell is my favorite, she has such a beautiful and joyful face and I love her fashion. I really hope we get more EAH throughout 2018 even if just a few new lines!

  5. I reviewed Back to School Holly and Maddie in November. Your Holly looks better than mine. Mine seems to have this dead-eyed stare. Hopefully some paint touch-ups will help mine. I definitely have to get Meeshell too; she’s gorgeous, and I don’t have her initial doll.

Mattel seems to be playing a real will they/won’t they game with EAH right now. I have to wonder what on earth is going on there as far as decision-making. Wouldn’t be surprised to see some firings this year.
