Monster High Pet Minis and Ballerina Dolls

Greetings everyone! Target is starting their resets and that means new things to review! Today I have for you the Monster High Minis Pets (I bought Lagoona with Neptuna) and two of the Ballerina dolls! Let’s get this review started!

I saw the Monster High Minis with Pets at Target the other day and was so excited! I posted about it on Instagram and got many questions, so when I went back I knew that I was going to have to pick up at least one to talk about. The available minis with pets are Frankie with Watzit, Draculaura with Count Fabulous, Clawdeen with Crescent, Cleo with Hissette, and Lagoona with Neptuna.

The packaging on these is adorable! I love that these are not blind bags. I know that blind bags are super popular right now, but I really hate getting doubles and I kinda like to know WHAT it is that I’m buying.

In case you needed the barcode when you go to Target….

MH Lagoona and Neptuna Minis
The package only contains the MH Mini and her pet. I was asked on Instagram about a checklist, but I tore that box apart and found no checklist. Are they even doing a Wave 3?

Look at that smile!

Here is Neptuna from all different angles. Let’s face it; the pets are the star attraction of these packs!

MH Lagoona and Neptuna Minis
On the left I have my Wave 1 Signature Look Lagoona and on the right is this new Pets Lagoona. I only ever got the first FIRST wave of Minis and a few extras. I’d like to collect them, but I don’t really know where I would display them…. Right now they are taking up shelf space next to my Pokemon Plushies, and I REALLY need that space back.

MH Lagoona and Neptuna Minis
Mini Neptuna is so small! It fits in the palm of my Reboot Lagoona’s hand! While I hate to separate Mini from Pet, I think this is going to be Neptuna’s new home. I took some shots of Neptuna next to a regular sized pet Neptuna, but my camera’s battery was dying and it refused to focus on some things. That will be a theme you see throughout this review. I apologize ahead of time.

Monster High Ballerina Dolls Review
The other thing I found at Target that I just had to have were the Monster High Ballerina dolls. There are three dolls in this set: Draculaura, Cleo, and Moanica. My Target only had Draculaura, but I drove out to the Target on the other side of town and they had Moanica. Now I’m only missing Cleo. These dolls have been on Amazon hit or miss. I’ve been missing. I know you might have already seen them reviewed, but I’ll pose my photos and thoughts here in case you haven’t seen them yet.

Here is Moanica and her box. The back of the boxes now are much more plain. We are getting the boxes that look like the international releases with multiple languages on the back. There is a small picture of the other two dolls in the line.

Look at that art. Even after all this time, the MH art is just amazing

STRETCH! You are free of that box!

Moanica has pink eyeshadow on her upper lids and a swipe of yellow/golden shadow on her eyes. Her lower lashes are grey whereas her upper lashes are black. She has side-glancing green eyes and a smirk. I think all Moanica dolls have this, but this is my first. I really like the expression, but I’m pretty sure my doll’s eyes aren’t straight. Something weird is up with those eyes, but I don’t mind. Character, right?

Moanica wears a pink headband that features flowers, a ribcage with a bow, a spine (?) and a brain wearing a bow. I think you can even see a heart between those ribs. I actually really like this little headband.

Moanica wears here light purple hair in a ponytail with two lime green streaks. The hair in the ponytail is curled. It was a little crazy coming out of the box with some loose strands that eventually pulled out, but the hair is soft and I don’t feel much, if any, product in it.

Moanica’s dress is one piece with a print that continues from the bodice to the skirt. The print is also continued to the back. The dress is purple with yellow hazmat symbols and an array of green…. legs? I think? Pointed-toe legs. She also wears a pink spiked collar/belt combo. I totally forgot to photograph the multiple layers of her skirt. The layer below her dress is a piece of black fabric with the green and black tulle attached to it. It’s a great way to appear to have three layers without adding bulk.

The new reboot dolls feature arms with hands and lower arms that are not removable. There is nothing on the box to indicate that they can be removed and a little bit of force does not move them at all. I was wondering what that would mean for accessories like Moanica’s purple wristlets. This is the solution. Much like Barbie bracelets, the wristlets are split down its length.

Moanica wears purple shoes that are EXTREMELY HIGH! Like crazy high heels here. I would break my neck! The shoes have a brain print on the bottom with a spine detail on the back. They have spike wraps that come up to a bow in the back. The part that covers the foot almost looks like a rib cage.

Moanica comes with this silly black mask. It attaches just like a pair of glasses and has a feather detail at the top. Honestly, this is probably going in my junk box….

Okay, so now let’s address the elephant in the room. When these dolls were announced at Comic Con last year I wasn’t a huge fan. I was so negative. All three of these dolls have white legs that are supposed to represent tights. Looking back, I really don’t know why I was being so negative. Seeing this doll in person, those legs really aren’t that big of a deal!

Monster High Ballerina Dolls Review
My camera was having a hard time picking up just how white those legs are. Maybe I should have used a different background? That would have been smart, but I was in a hurry because my battery was dying and…. I was hungry.

Monster High Ballerina Dolls Review
So why was I complaining so much about this?! I own several different pairs of tights from thedaughterwhosews on Etsy. Seriously, go check them out if you like custom doll clothes. Anyways, if you have a huge problem with the white legs, you can always add a pair of leggings in your choice color to change that. I just happened to have a pair of green sitting on my table, and I kinda like this. The shoes still fit and everything. Plus, look how sassy she looks. I like sass :)

Okay, on to the sweet and less sassy Draculaura.

Here the art lets me better understand some of that she comes with. For instance, her wrist accessory wasn’t super obvious to me at first glance, but this art make it make a little more sense. Same with her roses.

And the back of the box…

So here is Miss Pink herself!

Draculaura probably benefited from the reboot the most. The smiling face and huge eyes just seem more like that character to me. This Draculaura has a pink eyeshadow on her top lids that didn’t photograph well, as well as a light blue on her bottom lids. Like Moanica, her top lashes are black and her bottom lashes are grey.

Lala wears a bright pink crown with her bat/heart on the top.

Monster High Ballerina Dolls ReviewMonster High Ballerina Dolls Review
Draculaura wears her black/pink hair in a high ponytail with bangs. Those bangs are crazy out of the box. They are going to need some love. And there goes Mattel again with those STUPID tags in the head. I will never understand….

Monster High Ballerina Dolls Review
Draculaura wears a one piece dress. The top is sleeveless with pink and blue stripes and a black bat design. The skirt if pink with blue bows and (I think I see) black bats. Like Moanica, I didn’t think to photograph the layers of the skirt. Also like Moanica, the there are two layers of tulle: a pink and a black attached to a layer of black fabric.

Monster High Ballerina Dolls Review
The dress isn’t strapless, however. It does have those clear straps attached. Here you can see how purple her lipstick is and that necklace/ruffled collar piece.

Monster High Ballerina Dolls Review
The back of the dress shows that the print on the bodice does not continue all the way around. You can also see those clear straps back here.

Monster High Ballerina Dolls Review
Here are those bracelets/wrist accessories I was talking about. They look kind of like webs in the art. Hey! They have bows, though!

Monster High Ballerina Dolls ReviewMonster High Ballerina Dolls Review
Fighting the camera again here. Draculaura also wears very tall shoes. Hers are pink with heart details and a bat/bow detail on the back. She also wears light blue leg warmers.

Monster High Ballerina Dolls ReviewMonster High Ballerina Dolls Review
The accessory for Draculaura is a bouquet of flowers. Something else for the junk box :)

Monster High Ballerina Dolls Review
There is something cute about Draculaura in her tights. I’m almost certain that thedaughterwhosews has pink tights you could use if this relaly bothered you.

Monster High Ballerina Dolls Review
I just like this photo…. I have no real reason to post it :)

Monster High Ballerina Dolls Review
So like I said earlier, this is my first Moanica doll and I wasn’t sure if she was taller than the others. You can see that their hips and shoulders are at the same level, so that answer is no. She isn’t taller.

And that’s it! That’s was I bought at Target today! I was super happy to get to go with Lori, who runs her own blog at http://venivididolli.blogspot.com/ You can check out there what she purchased today while we were out.

I can’t wait to find the Cleo doll. My Target didn’t have many clearance MH dolls… okay, they had NO clearance MH dolls. I guess I’ll have to hunt down the winged Twyla on Amazon, because I just didn’t get a chance to grab her. What are you looking forward to the most from the Spring Season of doll hunting? Monster High? Shoppies? My Little Pony? Barbie? Let me know in the comments down below!

  1. I love the photo of Lagoona holding tiny Neptuna! The mini pets are totally what made me shell out the money.

There’s definitely not a checklist for them either. I opened 5 boxes and no list. I’m thinking it might just be because they’re a separate thing with no blind element, so maaaaybe we’ll still get Series 3? I think it’s a good sign that Walmart had Waves F and G from Series 2 and now here’s Target carrying these, so perhaps we’ll get lucky and see the next series. I know a lot of people want the new character minis. (I really want the winged ones.)
