Once Upon a Zombie ~ Rapunzel ~ Review

Greetings everyone! I am so terribly sorry for not posting in forever! Seriously! I have a ton of content still left to post from Toy Fair, reviews, and a giveaway in the works! Please make sure you subscribe to catch all the latest from us!

Now! How about a doll review?!
Once Upon a Zombie - Rapunzel

You may remember me saying that WowWee does not plan to carry the Once Upon a Zombie line any further? Not only is that true, but they sold off the remaining stock to Toot’s Toys. Toot’s is currently selling Rapunzel for $15.99 (Seriously! That’s cheaper than Amazon!)

I’ll be posting reviews of all 6 of the current OUaZ dolls, but I wanted to do an indepth look at one of the dolls and compare them to other dolls on the market.

Once Upon a Zombie - Rapunzel
All of the OUaZ dolls have the same body style. These dolls feature 13 points of articulation (head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees). Their hands are removable in order to more easily dress them.

Once Upon a Zombie - Rapunzel
The dolls stand a little taller than your standard Monster High or Ever After High doll. The torsos on the OUaZ dolls are longer than those on the standard EAH or MH doll, even though their legs are close to the same length.

Once Upon a Zombie - Rapunzel
The OUaZ dolls look a little thicker than your typical MH or EAH doll. This is a fact that I will bring up again in a second when I talk about Rapunzel’s dress.

These dolls are all the same color. They are a little lighter than a MH Ghoulia doll. They all share the same hand pose. You may notice on my Rapunzel’s hand there is a slight spot? These dolls have been sitting in their boxes for quite some time. Their clothes can (and do!) stain.

The OUaZ dolls do not come with shoes. They have feet that are slightly longer than a MH foot and are at a different angle.

Once Upon a Zombie - Rapunzel
Rapunzel can smash her feet into the MH shoes, but it’s almost like Cinderella’s step sisters trying on the glass slipper. That coupled with the drastically different angle makes for an extremely awkward fit. I would not really say that they “fit”

Each doll comes with different cracks and stitches on their bodies. Rapunzel has stitches at her mouth and ankle. She has one crack/fracture on her lower arm.

Rapunzel’s stitches at her mouth don’t seem to line up with the curve of her purple lipstick. Her inset eyes are a blue/purple color. She wears a lighter purple eyeshadow.

The dolls all have the eyelashes that protrude from the eyes at the upper lid.

Rapunzel has a golden blonde hair with bangs that are tied up with thread.

She features the same tabs in the back of her head (from the packaging) that most fashion dolls now come with.

Rapunzel’s braid goes to one side. In this view, you can see her stand. All of the OUaZ dolls come with a stand.

Rapunzel wears a one-piece purple dress. The dress on my doll isn’t bad quality. The bottom of the skirt is not hemmed, but it lends itself to the tattered/torn look. My doll features a cut in the skirt. I don’t know if these cuts are random? Or if each doll will have a cut in this spot?

Once Upon a Zombie - Rapunzel
Rapunzel comes packaged with plastic around her legs to ensure that her deep purple skirt doesn’t bleed onto her legs.

Once Upon a Zombie - Rapunzel
Rapunzel’s dress looks nice on Raven Queen, but you can see the subtle difference in their torso size. Raven is swimming in that dress!

And that’s Rapunzel!

I’m not going to be taking down my doll’s hair. She has so much of it! I like that way that it is braided and then rebraided. The ends are a little dry, but so far (fingers crossed) I don’t have crazy fly-aways.

I’m super happy to add this doll (and most of the Once Upon a Zombie dolls) to my collection. What about you? Do you have the Zombie Rapunzel doll? Will you be picking any of them up?

  1. It looks like the cut is probably in the same spot on all of them. Mine just came today and her dress matches yours.

  2. I have Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty, and I’m hoping to get the Little Mermaid at some point. I’m really disappointed they’re not continuing the line, as I know there was talk of an Alice in Wonderland zombie, which I would have LOVED. Sigh.

  3. I quite like these dolls and have all 6. Snow White is by far my favorite, while poor Cinderella is my least fave, but mostly because mine has a lip rub. If Toot’s gets those prices down a little lower to make up for the almost $10 in shipping, I’d consider upgrading my Cinderella.
